Good morning, and Happy Monday, my dear friends! This will be quick since school had a 2 hour delay today due to icy roads…and I just sneaked away for a second while the kiddos are playing. Ok, so they were playing, but in that two sentence span of time they both managed to start fighting and crying! Ahhhhhh!
So, I’ve spent this lovely morning already making breakfast, playing “I Spy”, “20 Questions”, breaking up arguments…and this article that I read on Facebook came to mind. I have to say that I don’t often read these types of articles that are all over Facebook, but for some reason I read this one and I’m glad I did. Moms, it’s a must read! I’m not an easy crier, but this one almost had me in tears. May this encourage you today, dear Mothers! “Mommy, Somebody Needs You.”
And here are a few precious “mommy” pictures that I was blessed to be able to take a few weeks ago. This momma is amazing! She is such an intentional mother. I watch as she takes every opportunity to quietly instruct her children in the way that is right, and good and true…God’s way. I know that she still struggles with the same things we all do, and by the end of the day she is often-times exhausted, but the teaching of her children has been such a wonderful example for me to watch and learn from!
Enjoy today, and let me know what you think of that article. I bet it will make you cry if you’re a momma!
As I sit here and write this, my new little guy is sleeping peacefully on my chest. I can hear his little gurgles and squeaks, and smell that “newborn smell” that all of us mothers know so well! It’s times like these that I feel like the luckiest woman in the world. So often I look around at my family…my hard-working, wonderful husband, and my 3 beautiful boys…and can’t believe how much I have been blessed. Blessed to be a wife and mother, blessed to be able to raise my boys on the apple farm that I grew up on, blessed to be able to stay home with my boys, blessed to have my parents and 2 amazing sisters both live walking distance from our house, blessed that the Lord chose us to be His people, just blessed like crazy! However, way too often I don’t feel so blessed. Going through everyday life, behind on the laundry, constantly telling the kiddos “no, you can’t have that candy” or “pick up your shoes”; those things tend to cloud my vision of “being thankful in all things.”
I know that one of the hugest blessings is to be able to stay home with my boys and guide and teach them as they grow. Until recently, I thought a stay-at-home mom was just that – a stay-at-home. I played with my kiddos, I was referee to their arguments, I cooked for them and taxied them here and there; but never really felt or realized the true purpose of being a stay-at-home mom. It’s so much more than just staying home. It’s the “job” that God has given me, has blessed me with. And it’s one HARD job! I feel like I am now just starting to scratch the surface, but the Lord has been teaching me and guiding me and showing me that His purpose for a mom is to constantly teach and guide our children in the truth of God’s Word. In the whole sceme of things, we don’t get much time with our precious little ones before they grow up. So that time, all the time needs to be filled with teaching them about our good God. That is my job. And it’s so HARD. I’ve been reading a lot of books about leading our children God’s way, and so many times I have come across the fact that this job is not supposed to be easy. So many times I have actually felt sorry for myself because I have to stay at home with 3 rambuncious boys, thinking that this is all just way too hard. Well, it is hard, and it’s supposed to be. The Lord says, “small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.” I pray that I always choose the narrow way, the hard way, the way that leads to life. He also tells us in His word, “Take my yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.” I take that to mean that if we depend fully on God and seek His will in raising our children, even though it may be difficult, He will guide us and teach us and help us through it all. Without Him, I know it would be an impossible job to do. So glad I don’t have to do it without the Lord’s help! Pray for me if you think about it. Pray that I will raise my children to seek God in all things, to love Him with all of their hearts, to depend on Him, and to know that life without Him is not worth it. And I would like to pray for you, Moms, also! So please please leave me a comment on here or Facebook or private message me to tell me how I can be praying for you. The road is narrow, dear Mothers, but His yoke is easy!
And I must leave you with this verse that we inscribed into the concrete of our garage before it dried. God is talking about His words and commands and He says, “You shall teach them to your children, talking of them when you are sitting in your house, and when you are walking by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise. You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates…” Oh how I continually need to be reminded that this is my job, my calling and my blessing!
Without further ado…I’d like to introduce you to our new little Lincoln! Our family pictures this year were taken by my amazingly talented friends and fellow photographers – Meg Borders and Melissa McFadden! And some were taken by me, just obviously not the ones with me in them!
Some film…some digital.
Are you ready for the big day? For the cheesiest holiday ever? Haha! Seriously, if you think about it, Valentine’s Day is rather corny, but hey, since they decided to make it a national holiday, then by all means, let’s celebrate it!
So, I actually was totally inspired this year to make this a super fun holiday for our family. For the first time, I decided I’m going to MAKE my son’s valentines for school instead of getting them at WalMart! Ok, no judgement here if you’re going to Walmart to get yours! I’ve done it that way every other year and will probably decide that this way is too hard and go back to store-bought ones next year. But, since I’ve been inspired and figure, “What’s a stay-at-home mom supposed to do if it’s not make Valentines?”, then this year is my year to feel like a Valentines SUPER MOM! So, I haven’t actually decided which one to do…mmmm…maybe we’re getting down to the wire here, but I’ll share our options and give you the links just in case you wanna feel like a SUPER MOM too and give one of these a try!
Then, good ol’ Pinterest did it again and helped me find some super cute and fun snacks to make for the school party! Once again, I haven’t actually done any of this yet, but maybe it’s the thought that counts????? Or not! Anyhow, let me know if any of you make any of these because I’d love to know how they turned out and if they were classmate approved!
Again, I told you I’ve been inspired (by Pinterest!) to make this fun for the whole fam, so I thought we’d have a V-Day party! And when I talk about the whole fam, I’m talking about all of us…including my 2 sisters and my Mom and Dad! We’re kinda this whole crazy unit that does everything together. You want one of us…you get us all! We eat together, we vacation together, sleep on each other’s couches…we’re weird but we love it! Anyhow, back on topic…so last year I complained that my hubby is too rational on V-Day because he would never take me out to dinner on the actual day. He would always say that restaurants are less busy the days before or after the holiday. Way too practical in my opinion, so I got him to take me out last year. UTTER FAIL! It wasn’t fun at all! The restaurant was out of almost all of their dishes, there were no loud kids in the restaurant that we could watch and be glad we didn’t have ours, and everyone was all lovey dovey (imagine that!). I learned my lesson. So this year we are staying home and partying it up right! Will probably do our usual and either make or buy a heart shaped pizza. If you don’t want to make one, Papa Murpheys does a great heart shaped pepperoni pizza. Then I thought I’d make this fabulous looking chocolate cake along with the red candles and all. Not that mine will look that good, but hopefully I can get it to taste decent! Also, I splurged and ordered up some of these FABULOUS cookies. I seriously couldn’t resist because they are so stinkin’ cute! Plus, we have an AMAZING new cookie company in our town that you must try out. It’s called Cookie Construction Co. and she makes the best cookies. She made Iron Man ones for my son’s 7th birthday and they were soooooo yummy. I didn’t think they would be because usually the cute and decorated cookies aren’t very good, but these were wonderful! Definitely a must try if you live here in the Walla Walla Valley!
Thank you to all of you creative people who’s work is on Pinterest for us to copy! And be sure to let me know if you get to try any of these! I’d love your reviews!
You won’t believe it! There are no pictures this post! I decided to try my hand at creating and editing a video of my littles making their very own gingerbread house! I was actually inspired after seeing a video from a fellow photog making cookies with her kiddos and thought it was more than cute! And I know I’ll love this so much more as the years go by and these precious babies of mine grow up! Just thought I’d share…
Happy New Year, dear friends! I can’t believe it’s 2014 already…but BRING IT ON! I praise the Lord for a wonderful 2013, and pray that He will find us faithful in whatever He brings us in 2014! I just have to share this session since it is one of my absolute faves, and because it reminds me of a holidayish New Years session!
So, this session is of my sweet friend and AMAZING senior photographer, Meg Borders and her family. Their yearly family session always seems to be a last minute, fly-by-the-seat-0f-our-pants type of session! Haha! The day before we had their session scheduled, we decided to cancel because the high temp for that day was supposed to be 25 degrees. Maybe some families can handle that, but a family of three little girls and all in short sleeve dresses seemed like it just might be a big huge fail! So, we canceled till Spring, but then thought we’d try to send a call out on Facebook to anyone who might have a gorgeous, white indoor building we could shoot in in Walla Walla. Failed on that one too! But hey, put a few very crazy photographer minds together and in a last ditch effort, we put a white bench in my boys’ bathroom, a huge reflector to one side, 5 crazy kids running around in the background, a 3 week old baby screaming, and one AMAZINGLY SWEET, PATIENT, GORGEOUS AND PHOTOGENIC FAMILY – and here are the results! I think I’m glad we go for “crazy” every now and then!
Happy New Year – and I pray that each of you finds and draws nearer to the only thing that really matters in this life – our Lord Jesus!
Ahhh…what a fun tradition it is to go find our perfect Christmas tree! It’s something we love to do as a family as I love making memories that my kiddos will remember forever! I especially love taking photos of those memories. I have to admit that I do hear a few groans from the peanut gallery when I make them wear cute clothes to pick out a tree and pull out the camera and say, “Mommy just wants a few!” Or when I tell my hubby, when it’s 30 degrees outside, that his stocking hat and gloves are too ugly for the pictures! But they put up with me and will hopefully someday appreciate all of the pictures…at least this mommy will!
What kinds of traditions do you have for the holidays? I might need to steal a few ideas!
So, here are the few shots of the 4 loves of my life and our Christmas Tree Hunt 2o13!
Oh, I just can’t say enough about this gorgeous family! I had the privilege of meeting them last fall while on a visit back to the Bend area. We did one of the mini sessions…and good thing because it was COLD! Brrrr…. I fell in love with each of them and their sweet personalities! That is why I love love love photographing families. Each family is so beautiful in their own special way. Each child has their very own personality and that is what I hope to capture. The boys were a bit quieter, but goodness, little sister made up for their quietness and more! She was a fire cracker…as I’m sure you can tell from the pictures. This family, as with all others that I photograph, will always have a special place in my heart as I watch them grow. Some families, I have the privilege of photographing again and again, while others, I only get to see once. Either way, I love recording on film what makes their family so so special. And their photos that I take, is how I remember them. So thank you, dear friends, for letting me meet you, get to know you, photograph you, and forever remember you just like this…
Since we are so so excited for the up and coming arrival of our third little boy, we thought it would also be fun to add an addition to Something Beautyfull as well! Oh, and also because we know that time will be a bit more limited in our family for a while, we would like to introduce our new MINI SESSIONS! These will be perfect for those families who would like a quicker than normal session that will still leave you with gorgeous images of your kiddos or the whole family! Read below for more info, and please contact us with any questions or if you would like to reserve your spot!
So, we’ve been keeping a bit of a secret around here! Ok, maybe it’s not a secret to any of you who have seen me, but I often feel that if something is not “Facebook official” then it’s quite the secret. And yes, you probably already guessed it by the big, round tummy in the pictures below…we’ll be welcoming our 3rd little boy, Lincoln, in a bit under 9 weeks! We are so excited to see how perfect and unique God made him, just as our two other littles are!
Normally, I don’t get maternity pictures done. I didn’t with my other two, but two of my wonderful and amazing photographer friends said that I MUST do it this time! haha They told me to trust them not to make me look like a big, fat cow in them all! So, we did them pretty early at about 26 weeks prego since I’m packin’ on about a pound a week these days! I have to say, I am mighty glad they made me do it! I will treasure these forever! So, thank you, dear friends, Meg Borders and Melissa McFadden, for doing an amazing job!
